Research

Current research projects of the Patient Reported Data Program include:

Oral Cancer Directed Therapy (OCDT)

The OCDT-focused intervention expands ePRO collection beyond clinic visits to between clinic visits. Adult patients with breast or gastrointestinal cancer who are taking any one of eight oral chemotherapy drugs are eligible to participate. In some patients, OCDT, as an alternative to IV chemotherapy, may reduce therapy adherence and delay real-time identification of toxicities, leading to an increase in unplanned urgent visits, reduced treatment efficacy, and more mortality overall. The study’s aims are to:

  • Develop a tool to expand the frequency of ePRO collection beyond clinic visits
  • Assess the feasibility and patient/clinician acceptance of the tool
  • Assess toxicity of treatment at home
  • Evaluate treatment adherence
  • Integrate toxicity and adherence reporting into clinical practice

REACH: Resilience and Equity in Aging, Cancer, and Health

REACH aims to expand cancer care treatment to include a geriatric consult for older adults (age 70 or older) with a gastrointestinal cancer who could benefit from a geriatric consult, as determined by a fitness assessment. The study’s objectives are to:
Increase efficacy of care for older adults
Address the specific needs of older adults in cancer care
